The review process usually takes up to 3 weeks after the submission of the application by a nonprofit organization. After successfully navigating the due diligence procedure, the organization remains qualified for grants for a period of 1-3 years. Vetting process includes a comprehensive reputation and documentation review, followed by the signing of a Fiscal Sponsorship Agreement.
The donut team proactively spotlights nonprofits in the US that have a significant impact through their mission and work. This allows the donut community to support them even if they haven't formally joined the platform. When donations designated for such organizations accumulate to $500 or more, both donut and Donut Charitable Fund teams initiate contact with the organization to ensure the funds are directed appropriately.

Starting, posting and or managing nonprofit page on donut is free. However, when you collect funds via donut, a payment processing fee applies. For non-AmEx transactions, Stripe deducts a fee of 2.2% + 30¢, and for AmEx transactions, the fee is 3.5%. Additionally, a platform fee of 4% is automatically taken from each donation to cover donut’s operational expenses.
The payout refers to the transfer of accumulated donations for your charity from our nonprofit partner, the Donut Charitable Fund. Charities can receive these funds through our payment partner, Stripe, or via bank wire transfer if Stripe isn't accessible in your country. We recommend organizations to register with Stripe, as it streamlines the transaction and ensures quicker access to your donations.
To streamline the donation process and minimize administrative tasks, the Donut Charitable Fund consolidates donations for your nonprofit before processing payouts. Here's how it works:
For nonprofits with Stripe accounts: Donations will be transferred automatically upon donation.
For nonprofits without a Stripe account: Donations accumulated within a calendar month will be transferred by the 15th business day of the subsequent month, with two exceptions:
- If the total amount accumulated for the charity is below $500, the payout will be deferred to the following calendar month, or until the accumulated amount hits the $500 threshold.
- On extremely rare occasions, payouts may take as long as 180 days.
For disaster relief initiatives, DCF is committed to expediting the process, aiming to transfer funds in 3 to 7 business days.
While we place no limits on the generosity of donors, there is a per-transaction l of $999,999. If your donors are interested in contributing an amount exceeding this limit, they are encouraged to email us at donate@donutsocial.com.
Absolutely! If you're a U.S. donor, any contribution you make through donut, regardless of whether it's directed towards a domestic or international nonprofit, is fully tax deductible. However, it's essential for donors to discuss with their individual tax advisors to understand how this applies to their unique tax circumstances. Donations are initially received by the Donut Charitable Fund, a U.S. Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which subsequently disburses the recommended grants to the designated charitable organizations. It's important to note that donations from donors outside the U.S. are typically not tax-deductible.
No, the responsibility of issuing receipts falls on the Donut Charitable Fund, as it's the primary recipient of the donations. Every receipt is auto-generated and stored in the donor's user profile, making it easily accessible whenever required.
Yes, you can update your bank account information, but ensure you do so at least two weeks before the scheduled payout date. To make changes to your bank details, please reach out to us at fin-ops@donutsocial.com.
Bank transfers usually take a minimum of 3 business days within the US and can extend up to 7 business days for international transactions. If you haven't received the payment after these durations, please reach out to us immediately at fin-ops@donutsocial.com.
you can find transaction history in the profile of your organization in the donuts tab.
Yes, donut is available for both individual donations and corporate donations. If you're a business owner or represent a company that wants to make a donation, please send us an email at help@donutsocial.com and we'll take care of the rest.
donut is the meeting spot for those who seek solutions to problems that they care about or see around them, and we see nonprofits as those who provide those solutions. Speaking to the solutions your team is working on is a great way to engage the donut community and make them invested in seeing them through.
a huge part of your story is the problem-solvers on your team. The donut community loves putting faces to organizations’ names – don’t forget your team’s story, too.
sometimes a shorter line is more effective than a few paragraphs - make sure that your readers can understand quickly what the gist of the particular post is. Try to mix longer-form stories with quick, snappier updates.
we believe there’s always a kinder way of saying everything. Sometimes we have to bring up tough questions and tell hard stories here, but let’s try to do it in a way that focuses on getting the story across in the kindest way possible.
The confidentiality and security of your organization's data are paramount. For a comprehensive overview of how we manage and protect your information, please review donut’s Privacy Policy.
Fiscal Sponsorship is a set of grantmaking and monitoring procedures designed to ensure that grant funds are used for charitable purposes. It refers to an arrangement where an established nonprofit organization provides financial support to a project allowing them to pursue charitable activities without obtaining their own tax-exempt status in the U.S. A donor’s donation via the donut app will go directly to Donut Charitable Fund, a Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization that will impose Fiscal Sponsorship as it makes grants to the recipient charitable organization.
No, if you're a U.S.-registered charity with a Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity status recognized by the IRS, you don't need to undergo the Fiscal Sponsorship process. It's also important to ensure that your charity remains in good standing in the state(s) where you operate.
